As a public-private partnership between the Jade University of Applied Sciences Wilhelmshaven/Oldenburg/Elsfleth, Elsfleth city council, the federal state of Lower Saxony and Beluga Shipping GmbH, the Maritime Campus Elsfleth represents a unique competence centre.
Nautic students and prospective ship mechanics, researchers and representatives of renowned companies learn, work, conduct research and live close to the river Hunte in Elsfleth on an area covering 30.000 square metres. The ship´s mechanic centre has opened in autumn 2008, the Maritime Research Centre in spring 2009. The university extension was completed in autumn 2009. From 2011 the Beluga Offshore Training Academy (BOTA) will extend the range of basic and advanced maritime training provided at the campus. With its holistic approach BOTA will combine maritime training with a modular programme of safety guidance for offshore industries and the shipping of project and heavy lift cargoes. Once nearly threatened by closure, the Maritime Campus Elsfleth therefore belongs to the most advanced and innovative maritime education, research and training sites in Germany (Area map for download).
